Just curious... What did the Army use these cars for? Any historical pictures showing them in use?
I havn't found any so far but this one was used by an officer as a base vehicle. It has military font VIN numbers etched into every window.

The fender tag must be pretty short... I can’t imagine the government spending money on options.

Base line. 225, auto, air conditioning, power steering and manual disk brakes. No trim which is why I like it. Plain Jane.

MAYBE motor pool transportation , company commanders base car . We had 4 door dodge pick ups when I was in the A. F. .

Rare= nobody wanted them when they were new either!

My friend has a '62 Plymouth 4 door that was originally a US Forest Service car... Big block with 3 on the tree.

Usually the base commander has a personal one and a few in the motor pool.

You gotta love those Plain Jane looking 4 doors!
It would be better if it had the base 198, 3 in the tree standard transmission, manual steering and brakes, and radio delete.
Now that would be a base model!

I actually thought it was a 198. Last owner swore it was. Checked the casting and nope lol. Officers are too lazy for 3 tree.

Neat history on a great little car to fix up! I used to own an ex Army truck. 84 D350 single wheel pickup that was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC its entire career. It was loaded with options....PS,PB, wipers and a heater! I sold the cattle bed that was on it when I bought it off a car lot, and put a regular long bed on it. It was about the same color green as your Valiant, but I painted it white. I sold it after I bought my diesel in 04. I was :realcrazy: for selling it, and wish I had it back! :(
