273 stock , what mufflers for duals ?
Now, here is perforated core that is used in the 18" long versions we tested and it is also similar to the ones used in Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers, and others. This pattern is amazing in that it works so well for sound control, tone, and air flow. Obviously a straight through piece of pipes flows more and indeed, the one used in the 14" muffler will flow more air but the difference is only a few per cent in a typical offset center muffler, like A bodies use.
This perforated pattern, when combined with the stainless steel sock and the glass fiber packing, makes a nice, smooth sounding muffler without much crackly noise and the length of 18" lowers the over-all sound level and lowers the tendency of resonating, on some cars. A 273 will be easy to tame down and an 18" muffler with this pattern is a great choice. XLERATORS used to use this, and likely still do, and they are one of the few, other than MagnaFlow, that has an 18" muffler.
