Im going to look at a 4 speed today and want to make sure that what I am reading in previous posts is correct. An 18 spline A833 was heavy duty stuff. This particular trans is an aluminum case. This doesnt seem as heavy duty as a cast iron, but I want to make sure such a thing exists and Im not looking at a weird unit. And as far as my reading tells me a 18 spline gearset isnt something that can be swapped into an OD unit?

Only numbers I can see on it are C95664 2

Thanks FABO!

Passion Performance made a aluminum case as was the factory overdrives. Sounds like something that was put together.

When I asked the fella if it was an OD unit he said it was not. I am waiting for a call back as there is another guy ahead of me. If/when I check it out I can always spin the input and in 4th its one to one, so that would rest easy on weather its an OD, but doesnt it seem wierd to have an 18 spline in aluminum? or am I over thinking it?

MP/DC did offer an aluminum case and tailshaft housing (different from the OD ones) back in the day... I don't remember if they offered an entire trans, I'll try to dig out some old DC catalogs and see.

Looks like DC stuff to me, most likely it will be a slick or pro shifted box. Not likely to be syncronized street box, I would pull the cover before making an offer.

He is asking $700 and it comes with hearst shifter and scatter shield.....looks like a lakewood, probably not BB.

AND.....Im second in line so the whole deal might already be played out. Thank you guys for responding so quick, if he does respond I will feel more confident when I drive 40 min to look at a bastardized OD slick shifted trans....

Ah, I see the bellhousing. I didn't see the photos earlier. Thanks to Dan for stopping by.

Well, so far I can only find the part number for the DC extension housing- P3751028. No luck yet on cases or complete assemblies. I swear they offered them, they used the 18 spline front bearing and collar (not the oddball OD one) and a bushed case for the countershaft (weak point in the OD cases). Maybe I'm just beginning to suffer from OFS (Old Fart Syndrome). I will update if I find something else, but at this point I would think if the case casting date is pre '73 or '74 ish, it's a DC unit. Or I'm delusional and should just shut up and go have a beer.
Edit: just saw Dan's post. He's da man.

DC/MP did indeed offer an aluminum case & tail housing for the A833 transmission years back. The one I owned had gussets cast top & bottom of the attaching bolts for strength.

Fate, you aren't delusional. I ordered both pieces from River Oaks Chrysler/Plymouth in 1970 to put in a 68 Road Runner 383 4 speed car.

For 700 bucks for all of it, I'd grab it. Even if it was an OD unit, it's fun to row your own. LOL

Super deal for 700!

Looks like the strengthening gusset not on OD case....

Dang, it's been decades since I have looked through a DC catalog.

This could be a rare bought 4 spd from DC. . A freind has two and sold one . A-body aluminum hemi box they came complete and very sought after today. Next time at Rolands I'll see if I can get a pic and cast number off his. If you don't want it I'll double your money.

Thank all but I missed the deal. I appreciate all the help though. Sorry it is a little anti climactic. I wish I could of got it.

We've all got "the one that got away" stories- now you've got another one. Oh well, next time!

The early aluminum case Hemi 4-speed boxes had iron mixed into the aluminum so that a magnet would stick to it. They did this for the tech inspectors or to get by the tech inspectors.

I told the original seller to give my number to the buyer if he wanted to make a couple hundred quick. who knows?
