I gotta feel for Uncle Tony with the "You can do this in your garage" engine that went to Nicks Garage for dyno testing.
They went through all of that to build the 318 and transport it all the way up to Canada only to fail the engine on the dyno because of being too dirty inside to run without tearing itself to pieces.
What a motivation killer that had to be.:(

Several threads on this topic are going on at once right now with RAMM ringing up an interesting new one.

The short cuts and mistakes are a big bummer.
But we are human and crap happens.
They had the balls to post it un edited.
No one here will do that!

Huh, I'll check it out thanks.
We'll see about no one here posting un edited fails. LOL

Interesting, no discussions on FBBO. Not many 318 guys there though. LOL

What is the fascination with these youtube monkeys. I wouldn't trust any of them with my stuff, maybe Nick is OK but the others are totally full of BS.

Reminds me of the Forrest Gump movie and one of his quotes about "less than brilliant" people. You know what I'm talking about.

Where would you start to list all the issues with that whole project. The list of problems I saw is way too long to even bother with. Just total :bs_flag: And people believe their crap because they are on "you boob".

Oh, and what the heck with the promoting of the "oil absorbent"? You have to put YOUR name on a generic bag of $3 oil absorbent to try to make a buck? Pathetic. :realcrazy:

SMH, I have done low buck rebuilds myself, however I have always run engine cleaning brushes through everything, and rinsed and scrubbed and blew it all out with compressed air to make sure everything is as clean as it can be. How was it there was that much **** packed in a new oil filter after running it for less than 10 minutes?? I will tell you why. They disturbed all the crust inside the damn thing when they tore it down and never removed it all.

This should be a public service announcement to everybody putting an engine together. Buy a good set of engine cleaning brushes, and douche out every orifice in the block, crank, and passages going into the heads. Clean and remove ALL the crust everywhere inside and out to make it so clean you can eat off it. Even if a machine shop does the work, thoroughly clean that ***** again.

I dont feel for him, quite the opposite. He posted this on youtube and some bucks down young person is gonna take it as gospel and try to duplicate the effort. It failed from excessive dirt and trash left in it. Not only did it fail, it failed on a youtube channel many people watch. This was an inadvertent PSA on how NOT to do this type of job.

Had it not lost oil pressure this would be a whole different story i think. Something to do with lifters if i recall.

too short of pushrods, possibly exposing the oil control band of the lifters as they came out too much with no valve resistance.

Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against the guy, but if your gonna do a low buck slap it together rebuild, theres still a whole bunch of **** you gotta pay attention to. So what about the sludge and **** found in the oil filter?

Anyone who has read the old school DC Engine books knows that Larry Shepard & Co always said to clean, clean, clean until it passes the white rag test.

When they dumped the oil out of the oil filter you could see it was loaded with metal flakes.

Not break in, just breaking... A lot more more going on than just the parts clearancing themselves from baseline tolerances.

I got this back from the shop after a hot tank bore job and another cleaning and he said it's ready to assemble, this is what came out of the oil galleys and plugged up my brush.

Why all the hate ?
We gear heads are a small community, and should stick together. Tony is just a guy like the rest of us, wrenching away.
Obviously, he didn't take this build to seriously. And if he did, who gives a ****. Mistakes are good, its how we learn.
Party On !!!

Clean them oil bores out, over and over, douche em out with lacquer thinner and a bore brush, blow em out with compressed air. Then do it over and over until the fluid sprays out clear on a clean paper towel.

Probably because hes trying to make a living by being a YouTube star. And not teaching anything of value doing so. You know, instead of running a actual legit business.
