comps 901 springs would work single with dampner good to .500 lift very similar to Mopar 249 springs

Aren't the valve seals like $16-$17????......Don't get me wrong, I'm a cheap skate too....but.....yeah.....

Would the 901s work? I was told by comp cams that the xe274h cam would be good to go in my car but I needed to have the 995 springs. I already had the 901s and didn't want to over cam my engine so I ran the 268.

If you have a normal street car then yes I would anyway if this is a drag car and your running to red line every time then I'd up to the 995's

What installed height are you at now?
You might want to know that first.
If its decent, like 1.75 or better you could run a set of +.050 locks and choose from a better/greater selection of springs in the 1.80 arena.
Too little spring is a killer of power and parts. More common than people think.

I'd check the height 1st.

so i need to check my install height with the retainers for the 995-16 springs?

im new to this.. i just assumed you bought the cam kit then install your springs, seals , retainers and locks , install cam, break in and go

I'm new as well. Just did my first cam swap with a guru around these parts... I installed cam, with new springs , new seals, old retainers and locks. I also have the XE268H cam, which is 1 step down from the 274 so I don't know if that makes a difference.

i should have gotten an xe268.. its plenty of cam for what i am doing

Ah, good to know. In that case, you should get a valve spring micrometer so you can check install height (Summit or Jegs has them, ~ $40, just make sure to get the correct size for your spring height). After you check the install height you may need to purchase shims to adjust the spring height (~ $23 from Summit). Will also need a valve spring removal tool (Anywhere between $20-$200).........Aren't cam swaps fun?!?! :D

I’m confused. Why does he need a 1.8 installed height with less than .500 lift. 100 pounds on the seat is plenty for that cam. He has enough spring choices for that cam that fighting to get even a 1.75 installed height ain’t worth it.

Plus, running that far from coil bind isn’t good.

I stated the reasons.
More choices.
Broader price range.
Yes... running within upwards of .050 till coil bind is harmonically preferable, in racing even more important when limits are touched.
I look at rate and seat psi then open, after getting a rec from the grinder. I think some room to grow isn't a bad thing.
The cranes someone else mentioned ,if I'm thinking of the same ones r a little stiff like 425 rate iirr. Probably a diff spring he's talking about.
I get a good price on reboxed springs, comp stuff but in a diff box.. or is it brand x in a comp box... hmm
Either way, there is no problem with running a 1.80 spring height if you can. It's not gonna hurt anything. Most heads come 1.80 spring height these days or better..and run under the max lift of their springs. What's odd is you're bringing that up without a particular spring in question.. how do you know he would be running however from coil bind in the 1st place? What spring are you talking about and how/why are you directing that at me...?
