I do not have the old piece and I usually just get some tar paper from the building supply store to use, BUT..... Since this insulation is just something to put a barrier between the two layers of metal, so they don't rust together, wonder if I could take some dense cardboard, soak some used motor oil on it and use that??
Creative thinking??

I would stay with the tar paper, removable and should not uncourage water collection.

Alternately a thought...

Something like this might work as well, but a bit pricy. It would provide air gap, abraision resistance, allow moisture to evaporate

Detroit muscle technologies sells them. I recently bought one from them. Great service from them.

It won't be a original replacement part. Car value will plummet dramatically. Now it's just another resto mod car. :poke:

If you don't want to buy a whole roll of roofing felt just for this, then the repro part is convenient.

Roofing felt, good as original

Funny thing back in ole Missouri, I would go by the local building supply tell them I need about 3 ft off a role, they say, come on back I
'll get you a piece off a roll. They will never miss it.
Here in Tx they say, We can't do that!!!!!!
I usually just use the old piece if I can. This car already had the tank out.
The Texas wife wonders why I ***** constantly about Texas!!! hahahahahahaha

Just stick you head out the door at 6:00 am, you'll hear the roofers, find them and ask for a piece.

We live way out. I checked the phone book forroofrs all either 50 mi away or out of business ha''

Wife does country R/E. She has some old signs that are a plastic coated cardboard type stuff. Strong and very durable I used that. Don't tell anyone!!!!!!!

We all know now. Car value is now 1/2. You might as well put a LS motor in it now. And finish off any value it possibly had. LOL.

No the joke is on FABO!! ha. It is a B body, 62 Dart, yep even the name is *** backwards? Wait, B body had that name first????? Ii is a more door so not a high priced hemi or 6 pac car, it is even white so it could be considered racist? It simply did not deserve $35 for the tank pad!!!! I will use that $35 for something else!! lol

Whatever Ma Mopar used it worked for my 72 B-body. I just swapped out the fuel tank and the only part that wasn't rusty was the top. I'm in Minnesota and I was shocked it was clean metal where that "pad" was. The underside of the trunk as well. Like suggested go original, it works.
