Need New Headers for my ride.

The difference is pretty good. I'd definitely recommend them. They are also way easier to put on. Here is a comparison on my '71 Valiant:

He may not want to admit it, but badvaliant is my oldest son, finally on the site.

Although the instructions say to, we did NOT have to take anything loose on the suspension. We lifted one side of the motor at a time to tilt it, and turned the steering wheel all the way toward whatever side we were working on and they slid right up in. We cut the old drivers side cheap headers off with a sawsall.

Why won't they fit? Txstang84 has some hedman block huggers on his scamp. I personally saw them.

They are probably the shorties. The block huggers dump the exhaust straight into the steering box. I have personally seen THAT. The passenger's side falls in, even though the motor mount is in the way of any type of down pipe. The driver's side won't even bolt up.
 
Well, you know , they fit the head great, and almost clear the steering box. With some persuasion , I might be able to get them to clear. But if not then they wont take em back all beat to fuk.:lol:

LOL Those headman shorties I linked to are supposedly made for the later A body, although I've never seen anyone report that they fit. As badly as we need a good affordable header, you'd figure there'd be feedback on um.

Great headers from Hedman, I tried a pair of larger headers from Summits main competitor, those headers were not even close to fitting. These Hedman Headers from Summit fit perfectly and installed fairly easily.

The left side header hits the bottom edge of the cylinder head. You would have to either space the header away from the block @ 1/2" or cut the bottom boss of the head to make clearance. Either way not good.

Nice quality....maybe jet coating would look nicer...the finish will fade as all tube headers seem to. But they sound and flow quite nice! They fit and finish is very good. if your using them on a Magnum block you may need to grind a bit on the block for a tight fit...other then that have 15k on mine and only tightened the bolts on the flang ...read more

Pic of hedman 78500 . The one on the left side of the pic goes on the left side of the engine. I have em mocked up on my 67 with a 318 mockup long block. They fit just fine

Those are the ones I linked to and am talking about. The blockhuggers are different and don't fit.
 
I believe Txstang84 got creative snaking the pipe up to them. I had pix of the underside of his scamp with these installed, but lost them. RH side was pretty straight forward, but the left side needed a bit of creativity. I was planning on using these with my 408, but may still try to find some 68-71 340 exhaust manifolds even if it chokes it off a little.

That’s the problem. A good AND affordable header is impossible to do (near impossible).
 
For a mild street car those Dougs are the easiest a body headers I have ever installed. I just removed them to pull Brian's engine and again, NO NEED to unbolt any suspension parts. Turning the steering wheel all the way gets the drag link out of the way enough. This is on a manual steering car.
And as you see from his pictures above, in post #26 a substantial increase in ground clearance.
 
I saw some Chinese stainless shorties on OfferUp last week, brand new, but being re-sold from eBay for $100.
I am not saying they were bolt on ready, but the tubes were quite beautifully bent all one piece, no welds but the beginning and end.
I am sure the flanges would need a but of flattening and maybe go over some of the welds, but they were really nice and obviously great ground clearance.
 
Ok sent the SS huggers back Got some of the Headman shorties in. I could not find any Doug's for under $500 so that's not happening.

The left side hits the big flat pad on the base of my head. Had to grind it down. Its gonna take a bunch of small miracles to get some pipe hooked up to either side and gain any ground clearance..
 
Rant time. The Headnans are painted black with cheap *** paint, instructions say to sand / blast remove the paint not high temp.
WTF for $2 they could use header paint.
