HELP I need a reliable used car

So I’ve been driving a 2012 Volkswagen golf diesel manual for a few years. It was certified preowned. Recently the engine lost power and I took it to the shop. You guessed it! High pressure fuel pump is out and to replace everything is like $6000. I only owe 12 on it. I think instead of fixing this car I may just junk it and get some thing a little older that I can work on myself if it breaks down. $6000 to replace a fuel pump is ridiculous. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on a good, used, cheap, and reliable car or truck. Preferably a truck as I would like to eventually be able to haul and pull things. I saw this 1978 Dodge truck online for $7000. One owner and only 58,000 miles. I do drive quite a bit for work.
