I grew up with nothing but 4-speeds, I did have a couple of pistol grip cars, but most of my early morning driving (coffee time) was in a 70 Chevelle, 396 L78 and the 4 speed. Never had a cup holder. Sometimes some balancing to be done especially in stop and go traffic. It was just what needed to be done.
