When I push the Brake paddle down the driver side brake light turns off. When I have light switch on and I hit the brake paddle the left light goes out. Is this a ground issue?

grounds would be my first check . bad ones can cause some weird she-ot

Had the turn signal switch out? The brake light switch bypasses the tail light circuit and draws current through the signal switch, if the signal switch is bad it can cause those exact symptoms

So it was the ground. I pulled the light out of the taillight and put a ground wire from the light to the car to test it and it worked. But how should I tie it together to look nice? And why is it not grounded enough from that taillight? Thanks

This is typical. Remember how old these girls are. Corrosion, rust, etc. Clamp or solder a ground pigtail to the socket shell and bolt it to a ground, say, the trunk latch bolts

With an 1157 bulb I'm surprised one filament worked and another didn't seeing they both use the same ground. Huh. New one to me.
Glad you got it fixed.
