At some point late eighties?? I bought my first mini- Maglite 2AA. This was when I was selling parts. Then I spent 12yrs or so doing HVAC service and install, and after that Motorola climbing towers and installing 911/ radio/ telco gear. During all that time I probably used up a dozen of these lights, either worn out, lost, broken, I don't know what all

For maybe the last 10 years I've had several Chineseoationized lights, and finally got tire of them. For example I had a 3 cell aaa light that seemed OK so I went and bought another, and it did not work worth a hoot..........ever......Both them died. I bought a 2aa little pocket one that worked well, then bought another because the first seem good, and IT was a POS. Last month everything pretty much died.

So I ordered a 2AA Minimag now LED instead of Halogen. "We'll see............"

Anybody use these like em hate em other?

Haven't used an LED version but have many sizes and they have always held up well

I use Maglite at work and at home. Both are halogen.
The one at work has worked for about 10 years. One at home about 20 years.
Love'em

Ive used them in my earlier Fire Service career, in the mid 1980s but they never stood up to moisture and dropping too well. The twist to turn on feature was difficult with bulky gloves, So we all started using Survivor Lights.
My Police buddies on the other hand used them, big and small. They loved them all, the large triple D battery model also offered protection.

I have a small LED one that I loved but it died randomly on me which seems to be a common issue with them. Online searches seem to suggest that they tend to get a bad ground and it can sometimes be difficult to find the actual fix for it.

I have ONE. A 2 D cell. I put an LED bulb in it some time ago and it's pretty dang bright.

I've got one of the old-style halogen 3xD cell Maglites in each of our vehicles. Have had them for years. Maybe not as bright as some of the LEDs, but rock solid dependable- unlike most of the newer Chineseum ones, as you have found out. I would imagine Maglite's new ones would be similarly built.

I have destroyed most every light i get. Doesent matter what it is. Had maglights, chinesium lights, snap on lights. Constant dropping from 5 feet onto concrete takes its toll. Magnetic holders, usually the first thing to break. Or the magnet is barely strong enough to keep light in place, dont bump it whatever you do.
Last one i bought,1-1/2 years ago,maybe 2 years was $450.
Big bright light, snap on with a fancy hood bracket.
Its broken,but not destroyed yet.

Beleive it or not, I really like this Harbor Freight Braun magnetic light w 3 intensities. The arm swivels and tilts, easy re charge with a cell phone cord. Great for working on anything. They used to be on sale for $19, now they always seem to be $39.
I bought a few last year and they all work great still.

I have one of those Tac lights you see on TV. The one advertised by the Ex Army goy who shows how tough it is. Anyway, after about 2 or 3 years it is still working great. It is pocket size and AMAZINGLY bright. My daughter bought it for me. I really like it.

Sold Maglite for almost 3 decades.. good sturdy light and I stocked repair parts on the truck.. LED'S were becoming popular when I retired a few years ago. Damn, I sold a lot of lights. Don't use Duracell batteries. They are prone to leaks. Never a issue with Energizers. The new ones are rechargeable I'm sure. Lithium is king.

I have some I’ve had for years.
When they came out I was buying them as gifts. I gave one to a buddy that installed alarms. His cow-orkers had a contest to see who has the brightest flashlight and when he joined they all laughed at him because I had gotten him a small one that used two AA batteries while they had ones with D size batteries. After demonstrating his was not only brighter but could also be focused they all went out and bought at least one.

What you guys need are surefire flashlights that us military folks mount on are weapons. They will light up the night sky. Small and powerful. Lithium 3volt batteries. Maglite would be a candle in comparison.

Still have a couple, but honestly never use them. My big 4 D cell needs a new bulb, and the little 2 AAA belonged to my dad, so I don't want to lose that one. I switched over to LED lights when I use to night ride mountain bikes. Those lights are light, and very bright. It kind of spoiled me after using them.

There are some new gen lights that outshine even the surefire stuff too!

I had a Cree LED spotlight that would throw a beam a mile. I also had a 5 cell Maglight the size of a T-ball bat. I'm sure it was designed for the police to clobber someone with as it would be ideal for that. Darn thing seized up after a battery leaked (probably a Duracell!) and it took a pipe wrench and a vice on the back of a plumbers truck to unscrew the cap, Destroyed. I just get the 9 LED freebies at Harbor Freight as I cant seem to keep one for over a month. Every time I get a Stream-light from work it seems to find its way back to my house where my kid leaves it on.

I've got a "red" 4D Maglite that I have had forever. When I was racing dirt track, (early 90s) my wife always had it in the pits for seeing what we were working on and for anyone who decided to have some words with me after a race. She was the crew chief and bodyguard. :lol:I still have it and use it all of the time. BTW, she has her own 4D she keeps in the door pouch of her Caliber.

I've had my Streamlight stringer for well over 7 years. A charge will last quite a few hours. They are really tough. I've dropped it from the top of a peterbilt and partially run it over by the same truck.

The Maglite I just bought is LED. What brand etc are you using?

My mag lights are older then I can remember, they only had the halogen back then. I have not looked at Maglite in years since using my bike lights as flashlights even though I did look at converting my Mags to LED bulbs. The problem there is you still end up with a monster big light with something like my 4D model. I use lights from a company called Light & Motion for my bike lights. They are an american company that tries to do as much as possible in the states, and have great service. Their lights are not for everybody, but since I already have them, they do good double duty for the few times I actually need a flashlight.

Used mostly Mag for many years. Had one of their LEDs and it was OK. That was a while ago, so probably improved since then too. About 2 years ago I got a Fenix E-20 - Love it. 4 light levels. It will suck down a battery pretty quick on the highest setting (265 lumens), but usually one of the lower levels is fine. Don't think you can get that model anymore, but will definitly go back to them when I need another light.

I have a Stream Light with a CREE bulb and a 4.0 ah rechargeable lithium ion battery. 1,000 lumens on high, and tough as nails. No more cheapo flashlights for me.
