Anybody use Maglite flashlights?

-
I've had several and used to swear by them.

Took the 3 or 4x D cell caving a couple of times and it was the only thing remotely useful in several situations.

Now I have a Stanley USB rechargeable.

I hate to say it but it's waaaaay better.

So good I bought a second one.

...although I probably couldn't use it to smash the skull of an attacker as the Mag-Light was designed to do.

Had a maglite. I put the new replacement bulb where I could find it... If ever find the light again.

I've got one of the old-style halogen 3xD cell Maglites in each of our vehicles. Have had them for years. Maybe not as bright as some of the LEDs, but rock solid dependable- unlike most of the newer Chineseum ones, as you have found out. I would imagine Maglite's new ones would be similarly built.
Just one more reason not to purchase Chinese products.

Anybody use these like em hate em other?

My LED AA Mag doesn't pin spot. Although it's much brighter than my old AA Mag, it's more of a flood beam no matter where it's adjusted.
BTW, they don't float when you're out yachting. But I'm sure you know that.:D

I bought a "clearance" ShyNeese Dorcy aluminum led that has a nice, although not adjustable spot beam that I really like. Takes six AAA batteries in plastic cage cartridge. Dropped it once while using, it hit the ground, killed it. Opened it up, had batteries falling all over, find the battery cage has broken into several pieces. I got it to work again with the help of a tube of super glue. Borrowed time.

Rechargeable streamlight stinger.

Fits in a medium sized purse and makes a good weapon when getting to work at 3 am. In a dark parking lot.

I don't remember the lumens but it's bright. One time the headlights went dead on the dart on a back road so I used this light as a headlight. It's brighter than the car headlights.

That's the same one I had! Does it have a thumb wheel that changed intensity? Thing was awesome but the weird battery flaked out on me. Great varmint light as the beam was very tight. I ended up taking the bulb and reflector out (integral AL heatsink as the CREE gets hot) for another project.

Since the advent of LED lights that you can wear on your head, I hardly ever use a flashlight, and never use a droplight. Two free hands all of the time, no positioning problems. No more getting burned by HOT droplight shields. Look for lots of lumens, and rechargeable, as opposed to batteries.
Just gotta remember not to look directly at someone without first raising, lowering, or turning it off!

I had a couple smaller Maglites years back. Not worth the $$ in my opinion. Both my Dad and Uncle Rick were on the Ontario Provincial Police force. I remember dad showing me the "Police" issue one he had "gotten". D size batteries "Police" etched into it. Definitely a weapon lol.
I need to get a decent rechargeable for the boat, just in case.

although not adjustable spot beam that I really like.
That was one thing I always liked about the mags. Sometimes you just want to look at a very small area and not light the area around it. The Fenix E-20 doesn't let you focus the spot. It kinda looks like a spot within a flood all the time which is actually pretty good now that I am used to it.

Mine has a smart trigger (which kind of scares me).

After turning on, if pressed again within about 10 seconds, it cycles down in brightness all the way to what could be called a room light glow.

On full, it is also as bright if not brighter than headlights.

I used Maglites exclusively until the owner & his wife divorced. She took over & their C/S went to hell in a hand cart.

I only use Streamlight now. I have a little one that fits in my pocket, mini USB rechargable. It's made a few trips through the washer and dryer, it doesn't seem to mind.

I keep a full sized Stinger in the truck, wire up a charger/mount in the console. Another Stinger mount/charger by the back door of the house.

LED rechargeable lights, the batteries are replaceable in the Stingers. Oldest one I have is 10+ years old and on its 2nd battery.

Mag lights were cool in the 90's...

Used to get them for Christmas every other yr. I said please no thank you, I dont use a flash light enough for it not have the batteries corrosion weld themselves into the light. I tried hammering them and taking them apart to get it out.... fk it. Threw more away than I still own.
Back to the grindstone I go...

I'm an old hand with Maglites. I still have a couple. Back in the day (late 70's) they were the only game in town if you wanted an upgraded flashlight. At that time I had quit college and started working in tow trucks. I needed something to really let me see at night so I got one that took seven C-cells. I kept it clipped in a pair of broom-handle holder clips just above the door opening.

Driving a tow truck means you will get calls from the apartment complex manager to tow away something that got parked in front of the dumpster, or in a tenant's spot, or whatever. That then means you have to deal with a pissed-off car owner who has to cough up a bunch of cash to get their car back, usually way late at night.

So one night I towed something away and a couple of hours later got the call from the owner wanting it back. To say he was irate would be a huge understatement. He was livid. Back then I was scrawny, 5"-4" and a whopping buck twenty-five. The car owner was more like 6-4 and 250. When I showed up at the storage yard (0300 or so, he was on a booty call to his ex) he thought he was going to drag me out the window of the truck and get his car for free. He tried, but I had the Maglite in hand and only had to make contact one time before he decided to re-think his approach to the situation.

Loved that Maglite and I still have it. It would light up the night or bail your *** out of trouble with aplomb.

I used to have a 7D cell Mag, it was more useful as a weapon than as a flashlight. I left it at a party one night, didn't want it back after where it'd been
