So I grabbed a 2000 5.2 to build into a modest 500-550hp turbo motor to swap into my 88 D150 pickup.
It was free, and was a strong runner till it sat in the rain.
Since I need to install forged pistons, and oversize valves, I am not too concerned about the bit of corrosion inside.

This will almost certainly be a blow through carbureted setup, with the carb inside a box, for ease of tuning.

I will be shopping for forged pistons and a fairly modest cam, with 112-114’ish lobe separation.

the motor has about 200k on it, so most likely new roller lifters are in order?
Any suggestions?

Upgrading the rods might be wise.

Yeah? Are they a weak point, or are you just saying a good practice in general?

I'm not sure. Factory rod bolts worry me, and they are relatively inexpensive these days. However, if you spend the money on pistons and rods, why not just get the entire reciprocating assembly?

You can buy a lot of Magnum short blocks for the price of building a strong stroker motor bottom end. They seem pretty stout from what I've done to some of the stock bottom ends I've spun hard.
