I want to paint my block before I start assembly and I need to get paint. It is a May 1970 casting which I believe would have been a reddish orange from the factory and I like that hue. The information I've found shows P4349218AB to be the Mopar color, but the cap on the current cans seems to be much more red than orange. I think that's what the 273's were? Anyways, I want it orangish-red. Looking for input from those who have painted recently what products would give that original color. What are the options? Is brushing it on an option to avoid having to mask surfaces?

The shop painted the block with a cast iron primer after the clean and hone so it should be ready to go. Most of the block other than the block are aftermarket and I'll leave them bare aluminum, at least for now.

This is the color I'm shooting for

Hemi Orange if I remember right, at least that's what I use.

Lots of discussions on differences between Hemi Orange and Street Hemi.
There has been alot of debate over orange shades in the past.
This was last years thread...
Correct shade of orange??

Last one I did, I went to the automotive paint store and had them mix me a can of Hemi Orange. I figured out, when it was too late, that color is more of the Race Hemi Orange color. I will try Vitamin C next time. Both colors are probably not a match to either color of engine paint, but car paint holds up well on motors if you epoxy prime them first.

Street Hemi Orange is the correct color for a 70 340.
I use the Mopar Performance paint.
