I don't like the dial ones have gotten burnt by them usually off. Great if you get a accurate one. Ever get that scope going?

I like the dial ones, so I can map the curve of the distributor in the car...

I get a good feel for the accuracy by setting the timing to 10° advance on the timing chain cover with the light on zero advance, then turn the dial to 10° and make sure that the mark is now on 0° for the timing marks on the cover with the dial on the light set for 10°...
