dual quad intake
Typical Offenhauser intake setup. Their slant six four barrel intake uses the same adaptor - well, the same type of adapter, except four holes instead of two elongated ones.
As for when it was introduced, I'm pretty sure back in the late fifties, right after big block mopars came into existence. Offenhauser advertised their 360 degree intakes (i.e., single plane) to counter Edelbrock's 180 degree intakes (i.e., dual plane). Last time I checked, Offenhauser still produced just about every thing they ever produced. I have their finned aluminum valve covers on both of my small blocks and also my slant six. Their V8 intakes are pretty outdated, and won't make the power that more modern intakes will.
