Chris let me get out in shop I will take a pix of a handy way to solve your lap weld issue with a home made C clamp modification. Half the guys on here likely have several in their box’s. You cut off one side of clamp and weld on a foot. Then tack base of foot to offending piece and screw down c clamp. I will post a pix here in a bit. You think you are frustrated now, cut it out and try butt welding it all and you will push car off a cliff.
