I got two online quotes from Hagerty and Grundy, however they are dramatically different rates for near identical coverage.

Hagerty is 741/yr
Grundy is 201/yr

Grundy is $25k in protection and Hagerty is $22,700

Anyone have experience with this?

Funny you mention car insurance. I have my house and collector car insurance through American National (ANPAC). If you don't have a claim they give you money back. I got a check for $792.50 today. That is about triple what my collector car insurance is per year. Free car insurance and a lot of cash to boot.

Interesting. So it seems the biggest difference is usage. Grundy and classic auto will not cover you if the car is driven to work. I'm gonna ke p shopping.

Yep, that's about right. Grundy Ins covers my car too. $231 if I remember right.
Having a good agent makes all the difference too.
I've had some issues with Hagerty... wouldn't ins a peddle car through them.

also need to look at storage restrictions. in my backyard in a carport is not good enough for one of them, i forget who.
was that agreed value or just a standared policy?

I've had JC Taylor for 30 years. The rates are low, but I have never had a claim, other than two windshields over the years. Can't speak on the claims response for an accident.

I have Grundy on my Dart. Hagerty wasn't even close to matching them on price. Granted, I am not driving my car to work, but for what the insurance covers, Grundy was far and away the more cost effective option.

I just re-upped my JC Taylor policy. Looked at a comparable plan from Hagerty, but they came in 16% higher. So I just stayed with JC Taylor. Knock on wood, have yet to file a claim.

I got a quote from Heacock and it came in at 360 for unlimited mileage and are able to drive where ever you want. The agreed upon replacement was $25K. I am going to call them tomorrow and get more detail as this was an online quote.

I want to be able to drive it anywhere.

I use Hagerty. Little costlier than the quotes I got from Grundy but they claim you have freedom to drive. Their approval process is less invasive than some of the insurers which want pics / documentation of your garage, etc. You can do the whole process online, no broker, no faxing or mailing paperwork, if that sort of thing matters to you. The Driver's Club is an add-on feature that includes Motor Trend on Demand and an excellent magazine that I find worth it (and I don't find much worth it these days). All that said I've not had to file a claim (and hopefully never will).

My gut is a $550 difference in premium is not similar coverage levels. Read your fine print.

There isn't much fine print on a quote, but I think the key is freedom to drive. I've also heard that Hagerty is no fuss, so there is that. Still shopping around. Safeco and Statefarm are the big auto insurance companies that also do Classic insurance with the freedom to drive (up to so many miles) so we'll see.

I called Hagerty just before Carlisle this year due to another post on this topic. As I suspected due to what I have learned by being insured with them going on 20 years, I was told if I drove to Carlisle my car would be covered. It would Also be covered in the hotel parking lot at a restaurant etc while out of town. The main thing is that it’s normally in a locked secured garage when at home.

Other companies have said no to driving anywhere but to and from a show. I very rarely drive anywhere besides shows but if I do I don’t want to be without insurance. Maybe it costs a little more but at least I know I’m covered with no mileage restrictions.

You know what you're right. I keep thinking, if something did happen, I don't want to be penny-pinched by the insurance. Hagerty will pay out right, no questions asked.

I know a couple people who over the years have had to file a claim with Hagerty and the company paid the bill. Knock on wood I have not had to file a claim and hope I never do.

I would suggest that you call and ask any questions directly, don’t take my word for anything. LOL
