Hey everybody
I recently bought a 904 that was rebuilt like 25 years ago.
So I'm going through it to check everything over.
I took the oil pump apart to inspect it and it appears to have been refurbished.
My question is I didn't notice the Mark's on the pump gears before I took it apart.
Is there a right way their supposed to be aligned?
I haven't been able to find any info yet.
Thank you, Mike

See those two really deep grooves mirror imaged in the parts?

Line those up.

Not sure what you mean? Sorry

I'm talking about the Mark's on the gears themselves.
I'm not sure if they were up / down, clocked a certain way...etc
Or if it matters.
I figured they must be there for a reason?
Also I took apart another pump and it only has one mark on one gear only??
Thanks for your response.

The two halves of the pump housing has to be lined up properly when you bolt it back together. I believe they have a tool that goes around the O.D. for that. 65'

there is a tool. you can also use a BIG hose clamp. or so what we used to do and put pump together 1st and put it in trans without other guts in it.

Ok thank you!
I put it together on the torque converter hub.
The case is empty so I'll make sure it fits ok.
Something that's also not covered in my book.
It only shows a 727 pump.

Ok so I'm an idiot...lol
I guess if you slow down and actually read the book you have then you just might find the answer.
