Looking for pics of this shifter, any other info, and any parts.

I have 67 Barracuda with a bench seat, it's a factory 4 speed and would have come with an Inland shifter.

Early on, among other things, the Inland was replaced with an aftermarket Hurst.

The Hurst does not have a bolt on handle, or a push in handle. It is not the same as the 68-up shifters. Many of you already know this.

The chrome handle is part of the shifter, and the weld at the bottom on some partially covered the 3836 number.

It came with the 2298 mounting block.
The rods are not the same as the 68-up rods. One can use those rods, but would have to use the 6350 block.

I have 2, one with 2 rods, one with no rods, different numbers stamped into the cases.

I have seen one other version with the same handle, but instead of Hurst it shows Indy. Looks exactly the same though.

Mine has the white ball with the clear top, appears to be a little bigger than the standard white ball, and I noticed another version with a groove in the lower half of the ball and it doesn't have the brass thread insert.

I also noticed, on both, you can set the shifter to neutral with a screwdriver, same as other shifters, but reverse doesn't have a hole in the center, only one that doesn't.

I'm missing the correct reverse rod, but I'm not sure of the #.

Here are some pictures of that shifter with all it's original linkage mounted on an A Body 4 speed. Notice that the reverse rod and arm is not so swift. It actually hit the bottom right cover bolt head. I tried to add clearance to the rod, but in the end used a 82 degree socket head countersunk bolt in that position.

That is awesome!

Did they come with a black ball?

Here is the same shifter, same transmission with the OEM 1964-1965 A Body rods and shift arms. You must use an adapter bushing, .500 OD and .330 ID, for the reverse rod. It works because they both use the same 2298 mounting plate.

Here is the same trans and shifter with Hurst O/D setup. 0078 reverse rod, 3667 reverse arm, 2145 O/D rod, and 3894 Arm turned down. Still using the 2298 mounting block.

Have you checked to be sure you have all the right arms and rods? That said, these are not machined parts within .010 of an inch.

Everything is correct except the reverse rod, and all assembled correctly.

Flipping the clip over prevented the slightest contact once in gear.

And I think I had that wrong, going into 1st, not 2nd.

My newly acquired 64 Dart 4 spd has a solid black shift knob. Pretty sure the two previous owners didn't change much. Hope to get the tranny out tomorrow for a tune up. Let me know if I can help.

Nice to sort it out before installing it.
I did just that, and it made it easier and was a time saver.
I adjusted the stops once in the car, as I knew they were easy to get to with the trans in, and I could get a better feel for the shifter, if that makes sense.
I also used a tip I learned recently, bought bolts a little longer for the shifter to mount, and put locknuts on the other side.
I put a little thread lock on the mount bolts as well.
Shifts so nice, short throws, perfect.

I just use blue loctite 242 on the bolts. It seals the threads and they don't move. Same for the 82 degree mounting plate bolts.

Imo, best shifter ever made for the a-body bench seat, and I've had the 68 and up as well as another Hurst in this car.

Handle is in the perfect position.
The ball with the clear section on the top with the black background is a hair larger in diameter than the regular all white Hurst, and therefore better, imo.

Pic shows it in 1st.

Does anyone know if the #3638 Hurst handle was the one that was installed in the Car Craft 69 Swinger "give away" car?

Looks a bit different to me. Do you mean 3836? They are not bolt on handles per se. They attach like early Pontiac Hurst shifters.

Yeah, you are correct, I meant to say #3836. I can't trust my typing anymore.
And after taking a 2nd look at the pictures. I see they are definitely different.
For quite a while, I have been trying to figure out what Hurst shifter and handle was installed in the CC Swinger.

There really were not a lot of handles. Some that might be it would include Mustang and mid 60's Pontiacs. Hard to tell without a number.

Looking at post #2 photos. To clear the case cover hexbolt head with the reverse linkage, why not just reverse the rectangular plate at the tranny so the offset is away from the trans case? That should give you the clearance needed to clear the bolt head.
If you don't have a Phillips head that fits the alignment slots in the shifter frame, pull out some Allen wrenches - find one that fits and it will be shorter, too.
Hope this helps...............................

I tried everything. I noticed that later linkage kits got a different reverse rod.
Have you tried the hurst shifter doctor he rebuilds shifters and rod sets real nice guy to deal with
