904 Identification Help - 1967?
I need some help identifying the transmission I picked up on craigslist.
I was told it was a A904 for a small block Mopar, which checks out from the research I've done. I cleaned up the numbers on the side and they read "2801534" (see attached pic).
According to this link :
http://mymopar.com/downloads/transguide.pdf I have a '67 out of a 273 baracuda, dart, valiant, etc. (Bottom right of pg. #1)
Everything I've read says the 904 switched from 18 to 27 splines on the input shaft in '68 but my (apparently) '67 trans has 27 splines on it (see attached pic)...
I am looking to buy an aftermarket torque converter and want to make sure I get the right thing. I know in general a '68+ converter will not work with older transmissions and most of the aftermarket converters I am looking at are for "1968+" A904s. Does 1968+ just mean 27 spline or is there more to it than just spline count?
By the way: First ever post here! Been lurking the site for a while absorbing information for my first ever Mopar build. Its a 1969 Dart that I am looking to get running cheap (LA360,904).
Thanks!
