Hi, I was just curious to see if anyone has any late/end of the year Build Dates for thier early A body. I will start, my 1966 Valiant signet convert has a build date of 9-13. September seems on the end of the year for 66 models to me.

The new models were released around August 1st.

If your 66 was built in Sept 13'th of 65 it was a early car, a month and a half after production started.

@65dartcharger has mentioned the beginning of the model year was sometime in August and ending late July of the following year. So 65’s started Aug/Sep 64 and ended jul 65. I would guess your 66 would be about the same time frame

My bet is the last 6 of the vin would be in the 100,000 to 120,000 range

New models was introduced around 23rd to 27th of September each year. The last years production ended Friday the third week of July. In your case you have an early one. Your model wasn't introduced yet! However the production started the first week of August as @65 Dartman mentioned.

64 270 convertible /6: 10/8/63 Hamtrack production sequence 6132
64 GT convertible 273: 1/6/64 Newark DE production sequence 363

To my knowledge @65 Dartman has had a Dart with the latest production date, Friday the 23rd of July. That's the last day of production for the model year 1965!

And it was a 65 Dart GT, 273/235 with a 4 speed, 3.23 open 8.75, factory AC 10 inch brakes and little else. My CA-built wagon was scheduled on July 19

Interesting facts, thanks for the help everyone. Its funny you say that the model had not been introduced yet. Ive always wondered about if this was some sort of demo car as it was not an ordered car but has buckets and a console from the factory along with the A.m. radio and bumper guards. 273 and auto trans option, It also got the blue top which I have not seen many of. Odd for a non ordered car.

Actual 'build' dates were not recorded on fender tags or broadcast sheets.

That date is the Scheduled Production Date, but lots of particulars could affect any cars actual build.

So think of it as a 'due date' an expectant mother gets from her doctor when pregnant.

In the same way, a car could be a 'preemie', on time or finished later than expected.

i had a 65 Coronet 440 convertible that was coded for a blue top and blue interior. Exterior color was light blue with a Dec scheduled build date.

One of my '66 Barracudas has an 8/17 production date. In 40 years of looking now, I still haven't seen an earlier one. I wonder how many Barracudas were in the first 500 cars built? It's an original Hawaii car too, with an odd bunch of options. Built in Hamtramck and not LA for some reason. LA wasn't ready yet? Were there different start dates for the plants? Did Hamtramck actually start the next production line exactly on Aug 1st? Same with the LA plant? Seems funny that they would ship a car all the way from Detroit to Hawaii when they have a Ca. plant right near where a car would be loaded on board a ship to be sent out to Hawaii. I figured it was to get the timing right when they announced the new models. They probably wanted all the dealerships to have some cars in stock at the same time, and had to get my Barracuda on it's way to Hawaii in time for that. Probably a showroom car, as it had buffed paint (Z8) according to the fender tag.

Was your car AA-1 Silver?

Sounds like a great looking Barracuda!
Not in it's present condition! That's going to be the next project after the one I'm buried in now. When I got the car, the interior was totally trashed. What little original that was left (back seat and carpet), had been painted/dyed black. I doubt I will restore it to red. I like the black look better.

My '64 Valiant has an SO date on the fender tag of 0830, and the door panels are dated August 20th, 1964. Pretty late in the cycle!

I have a 66 Barracuda FS with a scheduled production date of 9/22.
