Is there any kind of adapter for mounting a bolt in shift handle to a bayonet style shift mechanism? I could drill holes in the mechanism, but dont want to resort to that just yet.

Drill two holes and call it macaroni.
I’m thinking thats what will happen. I’ll drill two holes so nice, we’ll call it pasta primavera. I sure dont want to anger any 78 D150 purists defacing a #s matching date coded part

I had one of these hurst towers years ago that I had gotten out of a ram van. Used it in a 1960 el camino with a muncie M21. I bought the Hurst retainer plate with the 2 threaded holes, and the correct bolt on handle to clear the bench seat. Using an air operated whizzz wheel, I cut the 1 side off the tower, filed notches for the retainer plate, and drilled 2 holes for the retainer plate screws modifying the top of the tower to accept a regular bolt on handle.

Why don't you get the correct 64-65 Hurst body? Sell the truck body. The 64-65 body's are better anyway and everything will end up where it should be. What car?

Using the original 64/5 handle, with the later towers will lay the handle back so far I would think it would be uncomfortable to drive. The 64/5 A Hurst box has a unique tower, and tilts the handle forward. See pic, it's the one on the Left.

I’ve mocked it up with the seats installed and the position feels ok for me.
