Anybody know what is thermostat housing torque spec for stock aluminum housing on aluminum intake? Have looked around many spec charts and no mention of thermostat housing!? Oh this is for a 360 and intake is a Victor 340. Housing is a stock mopar unit. Had to straighten it by sanding it on thick glass with figure 8 motion movements. Old skool!! Please someone help!

Tighten it until it breaks then back it off a turn or two. I use a torque wrench for the important stuff. Tighten it down snugly with a 6" 3/8 drive ratchet.

Google : S.A.E. torque specs . there is a difference between grades of bolts and lubed or dry and a difference by diameter . No excuses for not buying torque wrenches (HarborFreight)

What I've seen over the years, is that it doesn't matter what gasket you use, what sealer you use, how much you torque it down, smallblock mopar thermostat housings always leak.

Well ladies and gents got thermostat housing flat as possible and installed with new gasket and applied a thin coat of loctite superflex clear silicone. Put back together fired engine up and no leaks!!

I too have not had good luck with any manufacturer thermostat housing sealing, but I have to say that the silicone gasket I referenced above has not leaked a drop in 2 years, uses no sealer, and is reusable.

The housing was new but the manifold was all pocked up from 51 years of use

Flat surfaces, a good gasket and "the right stuff" in Black by permatex...
Never ever a problem..

Just kinda wondering..... did you check the actual intake where it bolts to? Did you try to level it any, to match housing? A lot of people dont even think about that...?

I checked intake surface 1st. Lazer straight. Just housing was warped @ both bolt hole ends. Sanded it on sandpaper over thick glass. Came out lazer straight!
