i have aquired an 05/06 5.7 hemi and know very little to nothing about them. i have 1 in my 08 truck. this one has no wiring harness but other than that is is complete. i bought a book but think it may have been the wrong book. i don't know what all is involved in changing it to carb or anything else. might be in over my head on this. if it was a sb/bb i would not have a problem. i see that there is a swap kit for trucks now. please don't beat me up too bad for my lack of knowledge on

the 5.7. haha.

Do you know what your 5.7 came out of? Truck? Car? There are a couple of differences between the two. Year model helps too, for example, an '05 truck Hemi does not have MDS whereas, they added it to the '06 trucks (with auto trans). Little things like this (and your intended use of the engine, ie. going in an A body with auto or manual trans?) will help us, help you.

I agree with Hellcat. If you can give us specific details on year and what it came out of. Also details of what you want in the end. The swaps generally are not difficult. Unless, you suffer from ADOS. Attention Deficite......... Ooooo Shiney! The most difficult part is opening the wallet. Some swap parts are expensive.

it is out of a car as it has an aluminum oil pan. i checked the part number on the throttle body and it was 05/06 part number. the vin (i guess) on side of block is not readable. i will try to get a few pic of it when i get back to storage. thanks for info so far. not sure if i would a body or truck install. it would have an automatic behind it.

Automatic is easy peasy. Get the flexplate from ATI/Summit. Bolt on any smallblock trans.

You have a head start already by buying the book . Truck motors have the accessory drive up high . Car motors have the drives down low . You can run a carb , the manifold for the carb is stupid expensive . You must remote mount he oil filter , no sweat there . MSD Hemi 6 can control the spark . the biggest expense , IMO , is adapting it to your car . Example : oil pan , motor mounts , flex plates and other parts that cost WAY to much . I'm not saying don't do it . I am saying be prepared . Mopar people ALWAYS get screwed .

06. Has the plastic valve covers. Good starting point.

I agree, it appears to be an '06 with the plastic valve covers. The aluminum pan does not necessarily make it from a car, but the aluminum with front sump does. Aluminum with rear sump would be Grand Cherokee.

So your overall goal is what? Going into what? You want fuel injection or carb?

not sure, this is new territory for me. right now i am putting together a few short bed trucks until i find a decent a body car to build. i might put it in an a body or truck or ??? carb makes most sense as i don't have a wiring harness or anything but what you see here.

DISCALAIMER: The following ramblings are just my two cents. You haven't stated an intended purpose, so.....
If starting from scratch, I would probably stay with the fuel injection. Costs are about a wash when you consider costs of going carb vs. fuelie. Cheapest carb intake(in the long run) would probably be the OCP dual plane. Only one carb to worry about and he makes an adapter to acutally put the factory TB back on. Then there's the MSD Hemi 6 box and wiring harness. Each sold seperately. Costs for fuel system from tank forward is about a wash, too. Depending on shiney factor. There are also many choices for going the fuel injection route, also. From my personal experience, if you want something reasonably priced, as close to plug and play as possible, and don't want to sit behind a laptop tuning for days or weeks, get the Hotwireauto.com hot rod style kit. It can still be "tuned", But fires up right out of the box. Chris is a great guy to work with. I have done both carb and injection. At the times for me doing carb, it was cheaper for me because I have a ton of carbs and carb related parts around. Prices have gone up on the MSD stuff, too. Do some price searching/matching for yourself and see. Either way you'll be happy with it!
