Rust
Hello All
I just wanted to share this "Rust" removal method I used yesterday on
my 74 Dart
The car had a vinyl roof which finally pulling up, showing rust under it..
I've had way to many projects and although I know when you see "Rust" you have
to get on it ASAP, I did not, and the few times I started to, It was too much
wire wheel, sanding, chemical, $$ just never got to it..
But I do use Vinegar for Rust removal on parts that can fit into a plastic container..
Just could not figure out how to get the roof into the container...
But what I do come up with is this I laid clean rags on the roof, then soaked them
in Vinegar. I placed a plastic sheet over them then a piece of cardboard over that
and put some weight on top
This morning went out and pulled everything off. Then I washed the roof down with
water and a brush.. I spotted some places with a Rust Oleum product, that takes about
30 min...
Anyway the point is that Vinegar is very effect in rust removal, even on the roof,
of course it will work like this example any place you can keep the cloth next to the
rust..
I'm planning on going out at 6AM wipe down the roof, and spay with Epoxy primer.
Hope this can help others.
Best
PS: yes that is the rust from the roof on those rags
Guess I got so busy I forgot to take photos after the washed the roof down..
it will be full of black, I ran a wire wheel over it to smooth it all out...
I guess why I'm shy of doing auto painting is just this situation
once you have bare metal, it will surface rust so fast.
