I’m in Phoenix Arid-zona. Use to be a good place to live, besides the oppressive heat. Now it’s the home of the California refugees. Soon to be California Jr.

how bad is scottsdale?
we vacation there occasionally, love the scenery, big town amenities with small town feel and from what i can tell many common sense (read, conservative) people

Scottsdale is pretty much a purpose built tourism town now. It has a lot of night clubs, art galleries and golf courses. It use to be a retirement community back in the day. It’s really expensive to live there and the night scene attracts the local “douche bags” so it’s not a desirable place for me or like minded people.
 
South Florida. The state that's home to "FLORIDA MAN!" and other various claim to fames.
