Wrapping up (a painful) evening before bedtime, I'm watching "U.S.S. Indianapolis: The Legacy" a pretty good documentary featuring interviews of survivors of the sinking of the Indy. Probably THE example of the Navy typically circling the admirals and shitting on a scapegoat.

I ain't a Nick Cage fan but we have this one.

USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage (2016) - IMDb

My wife has a thing for Cage.
She says he's "dirty sexy".

The opening scene is prophetic.
"An enemy that is willing to die to kill us."
They lost a plane making that movie.

I was disappointed.
In the remake something is missing.
IIRC the original movie with Stacy Keach has a scene where Leyte is notified they have a missing ship by Admiral Halsey in a phone call.
It may not be true, but it is a good scene.

And then we have "kangaroo courts".

Man from my hometown was on the Indianapolis (17 or 18 the time). He was one of the toughest people I ever met. I’m certain that toughness was how he survived. I remember him being asked about it, and all he said was something like, “Ship was sunk and a lot of sailors died.”

Most the guys interviewed mentioned that they and others just didn't want to talk about it for a long time

One of my uncles, now gone, was on some of the Pacific Islands, he was a marine. He wasin't the first to go in but saw a lot of bad action. he would not talk about it.

On a side note, he and my father both ended up on I think it was Okinawa when things cooled down. This was a complete accident. My Dad and he both were living in what would be my home town. Uncle Bill was Marine, my Dad was Army, so it was just weird coincidence. One Sunday my Uncle had found out Dad was there, walked over to his outfit and they had a visit. I've no idea how he found out, with mail being censored, etc

There are LOTS of things missing and WRONG with the Cage remake. Like where they use the BB63 USS Missouri for the Cruiser Indianapolis. Even novices can see the difference.....I guess they didn't have any cruisers to use. I do admit, that cruiser did look similar to a battleship....on a smaller scale.

There were only two ships in that class, the Portland and the Indy. So I can give them "some" of a pass, but with today's video trickery, I'd think they could have merged various shots to create some accuracy. That movie, tho, is not what I saw last night. It was strictly a documentary, with interviews of the survivors

I know.....I just thought you might want to give it a look. It's "entertainment" I "guess". lol

Saw plenty of that myself in my 20 year USAF career.
