Of course it gets thinner. Viscosity is temperature based.

Does everyone think a 5 grade oil would have the same flow characteristics at say 20 degrees and 212 degrees?

That’s what Viscosity Index Improvers do. It’s in the name of the product.
Yes, I understand that as i have tried alot of different oils over the years and the Driven GP gets way thinner than most i have tried. So far Amsoil is the best for holding viscosity with heat. I also understand that the w in 10w40 does not stand for weight, but stands for winter. A 20w50 oil will flow like a 20 at a certain temp, but is still a 50 oil.
