Alright so I have a 1976 duster with a stock 340 out of a 70 e body. Ceramic coated long tube headers with 3 inch collectors. I’m trying to figure out what I should do for an exhaust system. I want something loud (20 years old) but sounds good with the stock engine. I also have 3 inch exhaust tips that are replicas of the a body factory tips. Any suggestions on mufflers. I was thinking flowmaster super 10s but have heard a lot of people suggesting other brands. Also want an H pipe. Should I get a reducer after the collectors and run a 2.5 and then back to 3inch for the tips or 3 inch all of the way? The engine is probably making like 310-340 horsepower.

I put DynoMax mufflers on my 340 with a 2.5" system. I think they sound great at idle and cruise, you can hear yourself think and only the tiniest bit of drone. But step on the pedal and they let you know the beast is alive. These are the same mufflers TTI uses in their complete systems. I bought them and a semi-generic tube kit from Summit. When I put the car back together, I'll probably add 12" resonators at the back to tone it down just a bit.

Which dynomax mufflers?

Dynomax! 3-pass turbos
They scream at 7000.
but nice and quiet while cruising at 65= 2240, with no drone at all. Worth every penny.
Not that I needed it but I ran dual 3s all the way, with turn-downs. I never really liked the sound of rectangular tips. Plus those aim the sound of the screaming engine right at the cops ears. At least with turn-downs I stand a chance.
Your 340 will like the crossover. When I cut mine out (367 cubes), I felt the low-rpm torque loss right away. I mean Instantly.

With that HP, you want to use 3" to 2.5" collector reducers and run a 2.5" pipes especially if the pipes are mandrel bent. That makes a huge difference as 2.5" mandrel has 50% more flow than 3" compression bent pipes that are used by local shops.

Depending on what type of driving you do and how long you want the system to last, you want to consider spending a bit extra for stainless.

As far as the mufflers, it's really a personal decision in your hp range. Any chambered muffler like the flowmaster or Pypes Street Pro or Violator are going to give you the most aggressive sound. Mufflers like Dynomax super turbo, Ultra Flow, Magnaflow and Pypes Race Pro are going to be a lot more quiet except at wide open throttle.

after tweaking the "X" pipe I'm happy, tti down pipes a MUST HAVE nothing has the size/fit and smooth transitions in 2.5 in !!! just wish they had em in stainless....oops your runnung headers:icon_fU:

I have 2.5 exhaust with Flowmaster 40s, the original ones, they are super old and they are behind my hooker comp headers. Sound good, sometimes I want louder though. This was all a free extra set with the ourchase of my car though.
