My 73 scamp now has a new Trick Flow intake that is too tall for a stock hood. The air cleaner bolt has marked a nice centering point for the beginning of the hole. My question is, If I have a 14 inch air filter, how big should the hole be to allow for closing the hood and for engine movement under power surge? Is 1/2 inch clearance appropriate, 3/4 inch? I will be putting a scoop on over the winter. Also, it appears to me that the hole will be offset to the passenger side by about and inch. Does that sound about right? Any advice on how to undertake the process of measuring, cutting and finishing the hole would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes , the engine is offset to the right . this is normal . I would make the hole with 1 1/2'-2" clearance . As to the scoop ; a scoop is useless unless it is at least 3 1/2" from the base of the hood . If you are after looks only , any scoop will do it . If you are looking for function and looks use a Hemi scoop or the "Pro-stock" style . the right ones work awesome . the others are just there .

Thanks for the help. I was going to try to seal it off by myself. That article from mopar connection is great.

You`re going thru the same thing I did . I used an offset aircleaner base to center up the filter , and cut a hole about a 1/2'' bigger , but, my engine doesnt move around at all, motor plate , w/ for and aft limiters . Will try and post a pic , it has changed again for about the 4-5th time , and doesnt look this good now .
Pic was w/ a torquer 2 , the victor is the same heigth as ur t.f. , but mine sets on top of raised port heads , makes it even worse
