Yes you can. A thin wall spacer won't add any weight as your ditching the check valve, ball, spring, etc. Solid spacer not needed. Weigh a stocker and then gut it to only the seat. Don't even need oil in it if the roller is not pressure fed.

True but a hydraulic lifter even when made solid and ditching all the guts is still going to weigh (dare I say much) more than a solid.
