I am fighting with hood hinges for my 70 dart project. Anyone know of a good alternative to the factory hinges?

They have been painted as I need color match. I’m hesitant with lube, did try to on the second set but obviously unsuccessful. If you have suggestions I’m open to hear, i now have a third set and don’t want to wreck them like I did the last 2!

I would say you answered your question. Gummed up with paint and no lube is your culprit I think.

Crap hinges. They get very wobbly when worn.
Mine wanted to spread out when I would try to close the hood.
Ratchet strap held them in place and let me work the hinges to loosen up.
It had been a couple decades since regular operation so I'm sure that played a part.
Yes, they were free of debris and lubed.

First clean the rust and grime from the hinges so they work smoothly and realize when you ad layers of primer and paint, it tends to keep them from working like they should. I realize you guys up North get some pretty ratty metal. First thing I do when i drag a new project home, is spray the heck out of the hinges with good rust penatrent and get it all working smoothly. Then clean and when painting them, remember you want them to work so be easy on all the primer/paint.
Never had your problem.

Do you by chance have a photo of your hinges?
