When a small patch of clear coat has let go but the underlying color coat is still in good shape, can the missing patch of clear be spot repaired and polished out smooth without being obvious? My 2002 Dodge Intrepid has issues in a few small places, but the rest of the paint seems to be in great shape.

If the clear coat is delaminating, more will most likely follow. Might be where you need to fog in some base coat (could be color match issues)
and refinish entire panel with clear coat. Remember, everything will need to be sanded for base coat/clear coat applications to adhere.

Won't last if you do it. You only have so much time to apply clear on the base after spraying th base or it won't adhere.

1000 Grit wet sand entire panel, as said fog in (blend ) some color over affected area and clear coat entire panel. How long it's good for is questionable as your clearcoat may be failing .

Well, thanks for the responses. Though I have to say, that is NOT what I wanted to hear. LOL. Unfortunately money is tight right now, so a traditional repair isn't in the cards. I'm going to have to experiment with something temporary until I can do it right. I'll let you know how it turns out.
