My old man and I will be putting up a workshop in the next year and will be in the market for a 2 post lift. Who are the better brands, who should I stay away from? What should I look for as being desirable features?

We both have 2500 Rams/Fords so we are thinking the 10k lifts should be plenty as my truck weighs 8k. I have my eye on the Atlas OH-10X.

Ceiling height and cement thickness wont be a concern as it doesnt exist yet and we can plan around the lift.

Looking for 2 post info, no 4 post or scissor lifts thanks.

It's going to be hard to stay away from Chinese made lifts with their cheap prices, but do it. Mohawk Lifts are made right here in America. They are based in Amsterdam, NY. They have a 25 year warranty.

Mohawk Lifts | Buy Once, Buy Right, Buy a Mohawk.

Well the Atlas was cheaper than I expected so an extra thousand or so wouldnt be terrible. Do you generally know pricing? I dont see any advertised.

I think the 10K 2 post is like 7499

I have a Worth made in Fort Worth Texas. 10K and had no problem with it for 20 years now. Lifted my 2003 Diesel Dually Ram no problem. Used it this morning still working good.

I have an old Challenger I bought used. They are fairly solid. But my neighbor (the bastard LOL) was GIVEN, GIVEN!!!! a Mohawk. That Mohawk makes my hoist look like a tinker toy. It is MASSIVE

Keep an eye out for equipment auctions. We bought a 2 post Rotary lift a few years back from a dealership that went out of business.
$1,200.00 for the lift and auction fees and breaking it down for transport, the total was about $1600.00.

I have an Atlas Platinum 10000 lbs rated. It is certified which made me feel better about buying it. I have very happy with it. I bought it from Greg Smith Equipment they have free shipping.

I used to sell a LOT of equipment. I've sold many lifts and many brands over the years. The cheapest I would ever recommend for a low volume professional are the Atlas and bendpack products.
For the home gamer who isn't using it daily I think the Danmar is a great value. I actually sold some Danmar to pro's but the durability isn't there for six to ten cars a day six days a week.
I am personally very partial to Rotary but they were hard to sell at their price points.

Roughly speaking what do the Rotarys run? Comparable to Mohawk or comparable to Challenger?

The Mopar of lifts? Mohawk.

I’ve been happy so far with my Atlas extra tall 10k lift. I ended up getting the platinum line as they were supposed to be discontinuing the base line last year but that never happened from the looks of things.

Given. Geez.

Rotary here. If you are lifting heavy stuff I would stay away from the Chinese lifts. Big money but it will last a lifetime.

I quit that racket two years ago but Rotary and Challenger were more than double. XPR 10 was my best seller. Only ever had one dud that had any problems right away. In a shop they get depreciated out on taxes over a few years and they always seemed to outlast the depreciation.

yep Scary isn't it. Anything that isn't certified I refused to sell. I didn't want that on my conscience. I did my time as a mechanic. They have enough problems without junk lifts killing them.

We have 3 Complete Hydraulics lifts. One is a 10k and the other two are 12s. I'm thinking about getting rid of the shorter 12 as it's really too short for me.

I have a 9000# Atlas that I bought from a widow several years ago. The heaviest thing I lift is my 14 Ram crew cab truck. It works great but I have one complaint. I'm 5' 10" tall and it doesn't raise my Dart high enough for me to stand straight up under it. If the car didn't sit low I could use the risers and lift it high enough.

So in addition to the good advice already given I'd make sure that the lift arms go high enough to walk under them. This way yo will be able to stand straight up under anything you put on it.

Did you get both risers and the screw pucks for them when you bought the lift? I’m 6’ 3” and the only thing I haven’t been able to walk under is my viper due to it being so low I can extend the pucks up at all. The dart is fine to walk under.

Mine only came with risers.

What you can do, if you must, is lift the car a foot, then use jackstands to hold it up while you lower the lift then add risers. If you do that properly, you can gain enough added clearance under the vehicle to walk freely, jump, or even force the vehicle through the ceiling.
