I have 65 dart and 65 barracuda 904 trans.
accum piston & spring. Can you tell me what effects from the different ways. I think it has to do with shifting into low gear how hard it hits.

The purpose of the accumulator is to "accumulate" the force of the hydraulic fluid, softening/absorbing its force, softening the shift. Most performance builds will eliminate the top spring.

When I pulled mine apart it had no Springs top or bottom I guess it gives it a harder shift. This is definitely not a daily driver

The large spring was left out of my 67 904 when previous owner had it rebuilt back in 84. It was a somewhat common practice, shade tree or poor mans shift kit LOL. Anyway...
The car sits here for months at a time and torque converter leaks down. Fire it up and go straight from park to reverse, there's brief delay then a BAM as reverse engages. I acquired a spring to put in it. If I ever do pull it to replace a leaking front seal I'll have it rebuilt properly. Meanwhile,,, I go from park to neutral and wait a few seconds for converter to fill, then to reverse with no hard engage. Upshifts through forward gears feel great though.

So are you saying without this Spring you get better up ships but banging into reverse going from park. And you say when the converted drains so after it's OK

I've done the transco shift kits before can't remember if I had that Springs or not But it's been like 30 years since I've done one. Don't remember ever Banging into reverse like that. Now I'm doing my 65 Old style 904
