The purpose of the accumulator is to "accumulate" the force of the hydraulic fluid, softening/absorbing its force, softening the shift. Most performance builds will eliminate the top spring.

When I pulled mine apart it had no Springs top or bottom I guess it gives it a harder shift. This is definitely not a daily driver
