I know this question has been asked and answered many times over. However, I am stuck and hope someone may have a new source. I have a ‘65 Barracuda with a 273 attached to a 904 console shift trans. The shift cable got hot from close proximity to the exhaust and now hemorrhages trans fluid. Ive tried Imperial Services. Unfortunately they are not answering the phone and the voicemail is full. I also have searched high and low for a new or used cable. I doubt anyone will be surprised that I have had no luck. Anyone know of a new source? or if any other shift cables can be used like from another year/model etc? From what I have seen the usual answer is change the trans to a newer one. But its a nice original car and I would like to keep it that way if at all possible.

Thanks -Eric

Thought I had one - it’s the park cable and speedo cable - sorry.

If you could install a hose over the cable and seal it at the transmission end; while having it extend above the fluid level at the other end, the hose would fill with fluid but it wouldn't leak. The hard part is sealing it at the trans end.

I have used electrical heat shrink tubing with the sealer inside. If you remove the cable from the trans, and remove the adjuster wheel, the tubing will fit over the fitting. Then just apply the heat. Reconnect the cable.

High temp marine grade 3-1 Heat shrink tubing with heat activated adhesive. Try Evilbay. Something kind of like this below. A local electronics supply should be able to get it for you in 3 or 4 foot lengths.

That's the stuff. Just make sure you get the adhesive lined (it also is available non adhesive). Get the cable as oil free as possible before putting on the tubing.

If that Imperial Service is located in Michigan stay away from then they take your money and won't send the cables then you can't get hold of them been waiting 2 years for a speedo cable can't get hold of them they are a rip off as far as I'm concern
