What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
I got the back window out of a parts car, to go in a project car. Now to take the fenders and doors off, take the stub frame/engine/trans out (C body), and cut the car in half, for easier moving and storage. Someday I'll get my Dart home.

Polishing up the chorme trim on the hood. This part no longer available. So I had to be extra careful.

Did you add a spring as well? how'd it work out?
Yes, I did add a spring as well ,just cleaning and lubing the cable didn't do the trick

I haven't had a chance to really dial her back in, but under regular driving it seems to shift fine now (though a little soft)
Under hard WOT acceleration it holds on to 2nd too long, but i should be able to adjust that again

Took the (full) fuel cell out, added a screen filter between the cell and the pump, remounted the pump on rubber mounts. Didn't help reduce the noise much, since there is a short stiff piece of #10 braided hose between the pump and the rigidly mounted cell. Oh well, can't hear it with the engine running (dual 3" exhaust) anyway ;)

Tail stripe done! It’s not perfect, but then again, neither am I nor the car. This was first time doing this, and I’ll say it does take some patience.

Visited my buddy's parents (aka my 2nd mom & dad). I haven't seen them in a few years. "Dad" is 90 and is using a walker these days. "Mom" is getting around using a cane. Both have their own health situations, but it was great to have a nice (albeit short) visit. I've known them for about 50 years (they moved into our neighborhood when I was 9).

Got the switch panel installed and wired...and the 408 came home and waiting for install....it'll still be awhile though. Lots more to do!

Doing Underside "Cleaning" and checking for leaks (none found) and making sure every thing is tight... Getting ready for our Arizona Winter Car Shows & Hangouts !!!
I'm sorta skinny and do not need to Jack the 65 'cuda up, I just slide around on the "carpet"...

Pulled the old 26" radiator and Contour fans out of the Dart, and started trial-fitting the aluminum radiator. The upper hose and the lower right bolt (bracket notch slips over it) are the only things I don't have to refabricate...
  • Outlet is 1-3/4" (old one was 1-1/2"). My lower hose is two silicone elbows and a piece of aluminum tubing. Maybe I can find a 1-3/4" hose at the chain store IF I can get past the "year, make, model" dummy at the counter. Would a BB B-body hose be right (same rad, same WP, same block) even if I have to cut a little off?
  • The four shroud holes (that held the brackets I made to match the Contour fans) have the same spacing vertically - but not horizontally. And the way the aluminum frame is made, I'll have to use clip nuts. Maybe fasten a piece of 3/32" or 1/8" sheet to each side, and then drill holes in the sheet where the fans want them. Clearing the frame rails of course.
  • Height above the core support measures about the same, but will try carefully closing the 'glass hood before drilling new bolt holes and mounting the rad permanently ;)
  • I'm sure I will have to trim some more plastic off the fans where the WP pulley nearly touches.
Ah, the joys of big-block A-bodies. For my sanity I'm glad I never tried this on an early A :p

This morning, before the daily heat (but oppressive humidity still there), I carried the new radiator and the Contour fan out to a workbench where I had good light and a smooth flat surface to avoid dinging up the aluminum fins. In the light of day, I could see that the old brackets I'd fabbed (from 1/8" x 1" aluminum stock) would work fine with the existing shroud mounting holes, if I drilled two holes in the plastic fan mount tabs for relocated bolts. :)

I still might have to break out my Milwaukee right-angle drill to make the new radiator mount holes in the core support, but that shouldn't be too bad.

And find a 1-3/4" hose. I hate those flexible corrugated ones but that might be the only option, at least for now.

Went to O'Reilly and searched their Great Wall of Hoses. Found a Gates molded hose that was a little longer than needed. Cut about 4" off the long leg and it's a near-perfect fit. (They didn't stock a B-body B-engine hose for a 50 year old Mopar which probably would have fit. Go figure:rolleyes:)
Anyway I got the body drilled for the radiator mount holes, the fans securely fastened to the radiator, and bolted it all up. The radiator cap clears the hood by a gnat's *** since it sits a little higher than the 26" that came out. If it does have to come out for some reason I'll lower it 3/8" or so.
There is some interference with the plastic shroud to the WP pulley bolts, as expected. But rather than pull the whole works out again, I may just heat the tip of a knife and trim it in place.
I sure hope this thing doesn't leak!

Took it out again to lower the mounting holes a little (and trim the plastic while on the bench). Reassembled everything and remounted the catch can. Filled the coolant and put my pressure tester on it, sat at 5 psi for a while and no drips.
Fired up, took it for a spin... temperature exactly the same :BangHead:

At least I now have a brand new, lighter radiator. But it won't run below 194 at any speed, and obviously airflow isn't a problem at 30 mph and over... So the only thing left is inadequate coolant flow. I have the 0.95:1 fan:crank pulley setup for non a/c cars, but don't remember which water pump. The problem is that the pump I put in there years ago is a generic parts store rebuilt and I don't remember if it has six or eight vanes. (The a/c pump is run at 1.3 times crank speed so it only has six vanes because it's turned much faster).

Anyhow I decided to order a new Flowkooler high-flow pump. If that doesn't do it, I will just live with the slightly higher than expected temps!

Prepping to repaint my Rallye Wheels and will be putting my brand new Goodyear Polyglas E70-14's on them when ready. In the mean time will be running 14 inch steel wheels painted black with the newer tires previously mounted on those Rallye's. I couldn't resist buying the tires after I was quoted a better price than I got at Carlisle and saved myself $100. In my opinion there is nothing better as far as looks of the Polyglas tires. I'm willing to sacrifice the handling not being good but they came on the car originally. I'll deal and I can always put the radials back on from time to time. Steel wheels painted black with chrome lug nuts is a good look too,
I got my set 3 weeks ago. I'm waiting for my rims to get painted also.

Had my wheels sandblasted and I bought the argent silver spray paint for the center caps and wheels. After priming with etching primer gave a few coats of the paint. Came out great. Had new tires mounted. I have a couple trim rings that are not great so I'm looking for them online. Here is the finished product.

I got my center caps done. I'm still waiting on my rims to come back from the powder coating shop. I hope mine look as good as yours in the photos?

Caps are looking good. The guy who blasted my wheels tried to sell me on powder coating them and when he told me how much I skimped out. I already spent a lot of money on this project.

I'm making the rims Gloss Black on the back side. Argent on the front side. Like the factory kinda did. But I'm pushing the level of detail beyond what the factory ever had envisioned. Lol

Okay, the Demon wheels look good! When I order the next set of tires, they will be 305's.

It is difficult to see if the pictures came out on on my phone.

I still have the factory wheels up front, they should be replaced with some new Demon badassedness pretty soon.

My bro in law helped me install my steering column and wheel back in the 67.
Now I can manuver it up on a tow bar to go to the upholstry shop for new headliner install.

I can start to see the end of project and on road one of these days!!

That is the original headliner, as you can see, it's rotten!
Pro's are going to install.
