That is the question.
IDK. Daily driver.
Replacing chain and pump and seal.
Didn't have one on it for years.
Seems like it will rub the outer rubber on the seal.
Does it matter?

Go ahead, if it leaks... itll soak like a sponge and release it like a dog shaking off water across the cover and accessories.
Till it falls apart and maybe hits something like a wet rag

No harm in using it.
I don't, haven't run a seal cup/cover either in over a decade.

Chances are itll eat **** like the balancer you have there, hub will probably fall off. Get a new one. Elastomer is all cracked and oil contaminated

But I never get over 3000 rpm.
You think I'm racing or something?
Although the morons in the Hellcats always rev their engine beside me at the light.

Are you disparaging my 1986 dampener as well?
Yes......sorry.......I had a crank pulley come apart at 2500 rpm and man did it leave the area quickly. Lucky for me NOT through the radiator or the hood or cut a transmission line. I mean it’s off already.

I didn't read it as they're making fun of it....but rather that they had concerns about it coming apart and destroying your radiator, fan, fan shroud, hood, PS pump, maybe the gas line which could catch fire if the still spinning busted balancer makes a spark, etc. That's kinda what I saw in their comments?

Hell, I never knew there was supposed to be felt on those, never seen it before.

Finally someone says something about my felting.
The front of the dampener looks good.
Sorry I showed my ragged backside.
But that's where the felt is.

Felt it if you have it, why not? It wicks up any oil that may weep past the seal at least that seems to have been the idea? or more likely to help keep road grit from becoming an issue regarding the seal and damper?

Damper is junk. How will you accurately check the timing if the outer ring has slipped? It's not 100% about RPM there is more to it.

Just play ( it) by ear.:)
Joy to the world, was a good friend of mine.
Christmas is a coming and the geese are getting fat. Please to put a penny in the old man's hat.
