I think theres some sort of filler that works with powder coating. Leanna the mistress of powdercoating would know. Since it's mostly hidden, and I am planning on modifying it, I am considering cheaper options.
I assume your working on a 67 or 68 with the silver painted top plates? If so, I would paint it the same silver that's on the console top plates. Rechroming will be WAY more then powder coat. I had a small antenna bezel rechromed in 2012. That small piece cost me $50.
