My '64 Valiant came with one A body mirror on the driver door. There are 3 sets of holes in the mounting area with different spacing. Paint fading indicates a longer base mirror was mounted at one point, which probably covered some of the holes and added some as well.
The A body mirror I have appears to be mounted in the stock location, based on pics I see in the photo gallery. The mirror head is about even with the base of the A pillar.
I want to add a mirror to the passenger door, but aligning it with the spacing on the driver door, the mirror head is 1/2 hidden by the A pillar. It will have to move ahead 2 inches to give me full view, and it still clears the fully open vent window by 2".
I learned to drive and parallel park a truck with a 16' cargo body, so yeah, I'm a mirror guy!
Are folks mounting them uneven? I taped it in place, and yeah I notice it, not sure if others will.

From my '65 Valiant Signet Convertible. First foto passenger mirror mounting holes, Second foto driver mirror. My tape measure is a little off from the hole in the first foto, but nonetheless the mounting seems about the same distance from the chrome pillar moulding (which only convertibles have).

I really enjoyed using the remote side mirror of my '63 Pontiac Grand Prix, mounted up front on the fender away from the door. The blue vehicle was mine.

The passenger door holes on your car line up with where I test fit mine. Apparently my driver mirror was added as a single, perhaps by an owner. Many pics in the gallery don't show any side view mirror.
As I'm going to paint the car in the future, I'll move the driver side back to match.
Thanks for the photo help.

I've heard the passenger side mirrors are almost useless since the wing window frame is in the way to really see anything. I can't stand the look of just one mirror so I'm adding one to the passengers side of my 68. I drilled the holes in the same location as the drivers side.

That's why I used some tape to position it before drilling holes and mounting it.
The position shown by dibbons pics allows the vent wing to fully open, and be able to see/use the mirror.

My mirrors were both the small round factor style, I assume both factory installed.
Or at least by the same mechanic at the dealership! Those were the days where ordering options was almost unlimited, some factory & some dealer installed.

I just checked the Valiant fender tag, only driver side manual mirror was listed 1-1. Appears the passenger mirror was added later. My '65 Barracuda has no right side mirror at all.

Yup, I've never seen a documented factory RH mirror on a '66 and older A-body.....only dealer installed ones.

I'm a mirror guy too and was talking to Dave at Layson's Restorations about a passenger mirror for my '64 Dart vert. Dave said the passenger mirror was a towing package add-on, and that most purists didn't like adding the passenger mirror because that mirror was mounted further back on the door. Apparently those that pick nits can't live with the passenger side mirror being placed further back. I haven't installed a passenger side door mirror yet. But I'm missing it!

That explains it. If it's mounted in the same position as the driver side the A pillar blocks most of it! Fortunately I'm not a purist!
