Over that the gasket squeezes out.

Also crush washers are a one and done item. Should not be reused.

Any chance the 90 deg adapter has a crack that only shows up when bolted on.

I had both aluminum adapter and steel adapter and it always leaks after a pass at the track. I installed new gasket set with steel adapter and after one pass it was leaking. I tried mopar gasket kit and it leaked as soon as i started engine and let it run. With new gasket set i let it run for half hour no leak.
