IN MY 65 DART I HAVE 318-390 engine with 90 degree oil filter adapter because i have a set of TTI headers. I have tried aluminum and steel adapters but cant get it to seal at bolt that holds adapter to block. Been fitti g a leak for a while. Tried mopar gasket kit and mancini new bolt kit but it just will not seal. Any ideas? Thanks Bradley

I have never had one off but can you get a copper crush washer on the center bolt?
Also are you sure you are not bottoming out the center bolt in its threaded hole before the it is tight enough.

Had that happen on a thermostat housing. Too much gunk in the hole.

The gasket kit i used had copper crush washer but had nylon type washer that went between adapter and block. I tightened bolt alot probably more than i should have. It calls for 50 ft lbs of torque

The only oil mods to block is drilled passages from mains 1,2,3 and 4 to lifter oil galley

The oil pressure is 64lbs idling about 70 lbs driving around the pits and its 100lbs at finish line in 1/8 mile at the track. I changed from high volume pump to stock pump same oil pressure

Over tightening a gasket is a recipe for leaks. The "Realgaskets" thermostat gasket I am running called for 25 inch pounds.

Over that the gasket squeezes out.

Also crush washers are a one and done item. Should not be reused.

Any chance the 90 deg adapter has a crack that only shows up when bolted on.

I had both aluminum adapter and steel adapter and it always leaks after a pass at the track. I installed new gasket set with steel adapter and after one pass it was leaking. I tried mopar gasket kit and it leaked as soon as i started engine and let it run. With new gasket set i let it run for half hour no leak.

Mine would always leak at the filter if I didn't run a Wix 51515XP or a HP1 fram with the heavy plate and thicker rubber seal, never had it leak at the bolt. Are you sure that is where the leak is.

Its always the bolt.

Somethings off.

I've put them back on with the old gaskets and they never leak.

Take and rub the flat of it on a flat table with some 80-100 grit to see if its flat.

I use a crescent wrench or 1/2 drive ratchet to tighten it.

The mopar gasket set is what I use, rubber gasket, cork washer that goes under adapter and the flat composite one goes under bolt.

Make sure all is clean

I have my doubts that you will get it to hold 100 psi regardless of which gasket you use.
Why do you want that high of pressure?
10 psi of hot oil pressuse per 1000 rpm.
7000 rpm = 7X10 or 70 psi on the big end.

I agree I installed stock pump from high volume pump trying to lower oil pressure same oil psi. How can you can psi out of oil pump?

one thing that will raise the oil pressure is when you close something that bleeds off at the end of the line like rocker shafts upside down..like cam bearings being off
Tight bearing clearance, straight weight oil

Which pump do you have?
Normally you adjust oil psi by shimming the oil pump relief valve or changing the relief valve spring

When mine was cold with 40 wt kendall back in the day I had 100 psi, after temp came up it was 45 idle, 70 at 7000.
It never leaked.

Stop fussing with that 90 and run a shorty filter off a stock block plate. a Mopar thread, bypass and gasket match WIX 51335 is only 2.483 tall! Sure youll be changing it every month but its short!
51335.gif

they got a great search engine by dimensions
Catalogs
use Lube, Spin-on, 3/4-16 thread size and 2.462/2.834 gasket ID/OD (stock 51068 PN spec for 86 Diplomat 318) and 8/11 bypass.

Naw they last a lot longer. The Harley filters have about the same filter area and their recommended interval is 5000 miles.

yeah, but its only 1/4 the size CID...size matter? :poke:

I don't think so. It's the volume of oil flowing through the filter. At least that's my story and I'm stickin to it. lol
