I took my lower control arm to a shop for the bushing removal since I do not have a press. Is this the outer shell of the bushing still in the control arm, and needs to be removed, or does the new bushing press into this sleeve?

Sure looks like the outer metal sleeve of the bushing. The lower control arm bushings consist of an inner and outer steel sleeve with rubber between them. 65'

Yes that is the outter shell of a rubber bushing.
It comes out if being replaced with another rubber one, and stays in if using poly or Delrin bushings.

That is what I was thinking, but before I try to remove it, it looks to be the inside diameter for the new bushing. The shop beat the crap out of it and they are not open today for me to ask if they just removed the rubber or if the outer shell came out too.the other side looks like there are two flanges, like the bushing was pressed into another Steve. Anyone have a picture of the lower control arm with the bushing outer sleeve removed?

It looks like they removed it with a jack hammer. If the new bushing looks like it will press in the arm than yes the Shell is out. Should be able to look at the other side to see if the Shell is removed.

They beat it up pretty bad, but I think I can clean it up with a die grinder. It is 1 1/2" diameter, and I saw a post on removing the outer shell with a 1 3/8" tap, but a tap would drop right in. That's what is confusing me. Sure would like to see a picture of a lower control arm with the whole bushing removed.

I wouldn't go back to that shop. There's plenty of info out there on easy ways to get the outer shell out, including my videos...

You can leave the inner on your pin if your using your stock pins OR my pins have the correct inner ID on them already.

I took the advice of you members, and just replaced all the bushings and ball joints in addition to the strut rod bushings. Cleaned and painted everything, now I'm ready to install. The car had extensive undercoat applied when new, so I knocked off the surface rust and printed the area behind the a arm that did not get undercoat. I'm doing one side at a time and taking my time trying to do a good job.
