Bottom line if it's making contact you need to clearance it. I wouldn't trim the pressure plate.

^THIS^ Flywheel / clutch turns at 7K, starter housing turns at 0 RPM. Trim the starter/ bell / whatever. Leave the rotating mass alone!!!
