8 3/4 Third Member?

-
Probably whichever number was on the shelf during assembly time. I've seen all three of the third members in unmolested cars over the years.

Probably a 741, cone style Sure Grip, 3.23 ratio.

I agree but it all depended on what the customer orders were. But if it was a dealer stock inventory then it was 3:23ratio. I’ve seen 489 and 741 in plenty of 8-3/4 rear axles in Demon and Dusters and Darts.

As Syleng1 and the other guys has said. at the end of the day, no one gets under the car and looks unless you have being judged on a concourse. So the better question is what are you doing with the car.. Is the 489 the best out of the 741,742,489 cases, some say so. Is the 489 more of a pain to setup if you don't put in a crush sleeve eliminator? Yes. Are you pushing more than about 600hp/TQ at the tire? if so you should be looking at a S60 or the like. 741/742/489 run them....
