Installed a new factory mopar clutch from Brewers Performance, I have extreme shudder upon take off to a point that the rear wheels hop violently, removed inspection cover and noticed that the pressure plate was hitting the starter boss, I contacted Brewers and they said they have run into this once in awhile, the boss on some early bellhousings are larger they told me to either relieve the boss or the pressure plate, my question is would the plate hitting the boss cause the shudder?,

I would say "no" unless you have some problem related. Hell once I saw a guy got a Great Big piece of grit between the flywheel and crank and cocked the flywheel

Chatter......poor choice of clutch material, that is using some non-sprung agressive race disk in a street app, damaged spring assembly in the hub, oil on the disk, loose motor mounts, or something in the clutch linkage. Could even be some unforseen play in the rear suspension. I would guess it could be a defect / mechanical problem in the pressure plate assembly, but I would call that one "rare."

What is the condition of your flywheel? New/used/resurfaced? A new disk on a used, worn, glazed, unresurfaced flywheel is also a recipe for the exact problem you're experiencing.

I would think if the pressure plate is hitting the starter boss, you would hear that constantly. I don't see how it could cause your shuddering issue, but I could be off the mark there.

New disk, new pressure plate, new flywheel, new throw out bearing

Last time I had clutch chatter, it was a bent disc that was the cause.

Bottom line if it's making contact you need to clearance it. I wouldn't trim the pressure plate.

^THIS^ Flywheel / clutch turns at 7K, starter housing turns at 0 RPM. Trim the starter/ bell / whatever. Leave the rotating mass alone!!!

just pulled the clutch back out question is on the disk which side does the the hub goe flywheel or pressure plate?

The disc won't go in backwards, the flywheel bolt heads will interfere .

Borg and Beck or Diaphragm design pressure plate ?
If B&Beck, install and measure height to the three fingers/levers , they should be very, very close .

LOL, the disc WILL go in backwards. Seen it many times.

I hammered a bell housing hard, cracked will let a clutch bounce

Just asking, when you were installing the trans. did you stop to rest while the trans was partially in? You can damage the disc with the input shaft if you let the trans hang when partially in.

I nearly mentioned this, but indirectly I guess I did.......

I mentioned this once before, do yourself a favor. Buy 2 long trans bolts say, 4 " or 5" , cut the heads off and screw them into the top two trans holes for guides when pushing the trans in. They just straighten things out. Easy install, and if you get tired, they will hold it while you recover.
Also, you did have a clutch alignment tool to center the disc?

Next time you get one - post a pic !
I'd really love to see it ! !

I knew I had you on "ignore" for good reason !

He's right on this. When I replaced the clutch in my 64 Valiant after I first got it, I put the disc in backwards, because I was in the dark and wasn't paying attention. It will install backwards. I did it.

Another thing that's a common cause of clutch chatter and shudder is grease or oil on the flywheel.
