Funny....I never really paid attention to this until now....

I have a fiberglass hood with a six-pack scoop. This hood uses the stock hinges with the springs disconnected. (This was all done by the PO.) The car is red so the engine bay is (freshly) painted red as well. The underside of the hood is red. The topside/exterior of the hood is red but will soon be painted flat black as it was intended to be. So once painted, I will have a flat black hood but viewing it from the front of the car, seems to me that the red on the inside of the scoop (which is really part of the underside of the hood) would show.

What do people do...leave the underside of the hood body color as intended or do you paint the underside of the scoop black or ???? Curious how others have this on their car.

Mine is black top and bottom but ...maybe just paint the underside of the scoop 'box' black that would be seen from the top and keep the rest red.

Good question. Never seen it asked here.

pishta - you're correct on the color. I should have said satin black!

I thought about painting just the underside of the scoop black (or even just the "sides" of it) but figured with all of those out here with these hoods and cars a lot nicer than mine, I could get the way this is normally done. If you paint the underside of the scoop box black, then it would not look so great with the hood up. Or maybe it is dark underhood with the hood down and you don't notice the underside color. Let's see what all those out there with these scoops do!

All the bolt on scoops (two scoops, or twin single piece) seem to be flat black - not like they were painted that color, but like the scoop was painted overall with flat black primer and then the outside of the scoops were painted body color (or organisol black for those with that hood treatment). I'm pretty adamant about blacking out stuff behind the grille, so I would vote for something that blacked out what you can see from the outside. I like your idea of just masking off just what is seen from the outside instead of the whole inside of the scoop - I would think that would solve the problem without messing up open hood presentation.

I found the best paint to use on a car for the original look without that can't get wax on or water beads is the paint I used on my Duster. It never changes even if you get wax on it while doing the car. Wipe it with a wet towel and no streaks. Easy to spray without getting stripes or flat spots. It matches the stripes perfect. I'll never use anything else. I have used many different paints even hot rod black. A paint store will put it in a rattle can if asked.

There are other choices but none as durable that I have found . Or as easy to keep clean. I also use it on Dash frames , Scoops and spoilers
