Ok, since I have them, decided to take some pics of:
64 273
67 273
69 340
I'd like to use the 69 340 manifold on my 64 vert.

Be sure to post pics of install and any accessories that you car has (manual/power steering, power brake, 4 speed/auto, steering shaft, etc). Many early A owners have interest in the 340 manifolds when used in an early A. Give details and let FABO know how it goes.....
What manifold do you plan to use on the passenger's side??????

I have a 273 engine with manual brakes and manual steering, I was going to try to use a Y pipe from a 68/69 A body, but don't have anything to test or compare to. I do have an order in at Waldron Exhaust for there 273 commando exhaust.

Use the 273 64-66 manifold. Make sure Waldron gives you a 2 1/4 muffler. They wanted to neck down my 67 Formula S exhaust to a stock 2 barrel muffler. Your muffler should be straight thru as well as the resonator. The stock Commando exhaust works great. Trying to use a 68-71 340 manifold will add a lot of headaches, clearance, custom exhaust, 273 ports vs 340 ports for next to no gain.

Sorry, I'd probably use the 340 passenger side exhaust, 904 auto trans. Yes, factory inner fenders

Have you tried fitting the 340 manifolds onto the 273 heads? Is there enough meat around the ports to support the gaskets?
Many FABO members say that you can get them to seal up??? Check some FABO threads or maybe someone will chime in.

Still have a bunch of work to do putting the car back together. So will have to decide later on if I go stock exhaust with waldron single exhaust, or maybe go with TTI dual exhuast or try to tackle the 340 manifolds. I think the cost diff between the waldron single with a muffler and TTI dual without muffler was about $250. I have another 64 vert with a warmed up 318 that I have Dougs headers with a modified late A body Pypes dual exhaust on, so not looking for max performance on this one, just a very nice cruiser. Also waldron no longer has the resonators with their Commando exhaust.

I never realized before how close in shape the 340 manifold was compared to the later 273/318 manifold.
They are very similar (in shape) but because the 340 has a much larger ports (tunnels) the steering shaft clearance almost completely disappears.

Can you mill some off the mating surface to get them closer to the block and give some steering clearance?

You can also loosen all the bolts that hold the steering shaft at the fire wall and move it quite a bit away from the manifold. Then there's always the Borgeson u-joints and shaft adapters.
